The Scott Bonnar Reel Mower range, is still considered one the best mowers for a low, clean and high quality cut. You can definitely identify a lawn that has been cut with a Scott Bonnar Reel Mower.
One of the most common questions we get, is what engine would be a suitable replacement option for the 430 and 450 series models.
The new Briggs & Stratton 3.5 Horsepower XR Series Horizontal Shaft Engine, would be the most suitable replacement, as it has the same shaft and mountings to bolt straight on.
The Briggs & Stratton powerful XR Series petrol engine utilizes (OHV) overhead valve design technology. It features an automotive style air filter, cast iron cylinder sleeve, and dual bearings for longer life.
Briggs & Stratton's great reputation for easy starting and superb reliability, make the Briggs XR Series the ideal replacement engine for your Scott Bonnar Reel Mower.
There are two shaft diameter options available with this replacement engine, so you will need to work out if the 5/8" or 3/4" diameter shaft will suit your clutch.

Just want to say a big thanks to the guys at The Small Engine Warehouse. I ordered a replacement Briggs & Stratton for my Scott Bonnar 45 and I can’t tell you how easy it was. Great service, all the staff were very helpful and there are plenty of resources to help you if needs.
Thanks again fellas.

Hey buddy best engine to fit onto a Scott Bonnar 43 it’s got the original 202 engine on but does not have spark anymore, cheers
Hi Mike – The throttle cable is not included with the engine, you will need to use your old one, or purchase a new one. The new Briggs engine and owners manual is all that comes in the box.
What is included in the box? Is throttle cable / leave included?
You have a choice of a 5/8" or 3/4" diameter shaft when replacing the engine on your Scott Bonnar mower, you will need to measure the diameter of shaft of the engine you are replacing so everything fits back together easily.
Hey there what size shaft Will I need for my Scott bonner 45 cheers
