Simplicity 12.5LTH
Original Model: Briggs Various
One of the engines used in this mower was the 260777-0131. There is no complete engine or short block to replace this engine. Another engine that was used on this was the Briggs Vanguard 12.5hp twin 290777 in which you can buy the 351776 and add your starter to it.
Simplicity 12RTH
Original Model: Briggs 283707-0110
The original engine is no longer available. The newer overhead valve engines have the same mounting but the engines are about 2ö wider and 2ö longer than the flathead engines (non overhead valve) the muffler will be on the opposite side of the engine and the fuel pumps pull there vacuum from the dipstick tube instead of the side plate on the flathead engine. Due to this difference if you currently have a fuel pump on your engine you would have to purchase an engine with a fuel pump.

When replacing a Magnum series 18 or 20hp you can use one of our conversion kits for these tractors. If you have a Command in your tractor now, we can probably also get that same engine or a shortblock for it.

Original Model: CCK series Onan
A replacement shortblock for the original engine would be over $3,000. Our conversion kits include a drive adapter on the flywheel to bolt your pulley onto. Check your muffler style before ordering any kit. We wire these up to match the factory original four prong connector. The plate to mount the electric clutch to will work whether you have a brake on it or not. These kits include a new throttle and choke cable. The kits also include a mounting plate that you bolt down to your existing holes to raise the engine up to the required height. A new oil drain and tube comes with this to make it easy to change your oil. You do have to cut part of the baffle under your hood for this to clear the air filter assembly, no other cutting is required.

If you have a Briggs Vanguard 303777 twin cylinder engine, you will have to go back with another Vanguard Twin Engine.
If you have a Briggs Intek twin vertical, 405777-0134, you will Have to use an Intek Twin.
If you have a Kohler Command single cylinder engine, we will need to see pictures of your engine installed in the tractor to see if we have any options for you.
On the earliest models of these tractors they bolted the hood bracket to the cylinder head, if yours is this way you will have to stick with the same series of engine. Other than that you can go up in HP as long as you stay with a non-OHV engine If you have an electric clutch you will have to use the alternator and regulator off of your old engine unless you buy an engine with a 9 amp alternator or larger. If you have a fuel tank or fuel pump mounted to your engine you will also have to use it off of your old engine unless you buy an engine with it already installed. If you have a mower that was made in the 90's or later and has an OHV engine in it you will need to go back with another OHV engine. If your frame looks like the one in the picture below where your oil filter is wide open you could install a new engine with a filter as well, otherwise you would have to go with an engine without a filter because they stick stragiht out the side now instead on going forward. If your frame sticks up on the side close to the carburetor area the only thing you could use and keep a filter on it is our SB497149 shortblock or an engine without the filter on it.

Some the newer tractors used a 350777 vertical shaft Briggs Vanguard engine in them, if you buy the 35777A-0113 engine you will need to use your starter or cut the frame for our solenoid to fit down in it. Most of the older tractors used a horizontal shaft engine with the shaft out the front and one engine used in the older models was a 23D in which the 233431 or 243431 and typically had a belt driven starter generator on it. If you use the front shaft it will be a 1" keyed shaft, if you don't use the front shaft then you could buy an engine with any shaft size.

If your tractor had an OHV engine on it you need to go back with an OHV engine. If your tractor had a non OHV engine on it, you need to go back with a non OHV engine. The mufflers are totally different between these two engines and it will cause you some problems to switch. Most of these tractors used a 28Q777 Briggs engine with an oil filter bracket that bolted onto the oil pan. If your is this way you will not be able to use another engine with an oil filter on it. The newer engines use a filter that screws directly onto the oil pan and will be in the way of the frame. At this time I would recommend that you install an engine that does not have an oil filter on it so you do not get into any problems with it fitting. If your tractor has an electric clutch on it you will need to buy and engine with a 9 amp or larger alternator to run it. If you tractor has a fuel pump on the engine, you will need to buy and engine with it already installed, or use the old one off of your engine and also the valve breather. If you purchase an AVS style Briggs engine the fuel pump draws its vacuum from the dip stick tube. If the AVS style engine has no fuel pump you would have to buy a new dipstick tube. You cannot change from one brand to another without major problems especially on the muffler. One of the Kohler models was a CV16S-43510.
Simplicity Sovereign
Original Model: Multiple
There are many model of different engines that have been used in this model of tractor. You will have to go back with the same model as the original engine that came in your tractor.

If you have the Kohler Triad OHC engine you could use our conversion kit listed.

If you have a Kohler Magnum, you can use the 8252227 Shortblock.
Simplicity Sunrunner
