Basic Briggs & Stratton Rider Lawn Mower Wiring Instructions

Basic Briggs & Stratton Rider Lawn Mower Wiring Instructions

If you are swapping out the engine of your ride-on mower with one of the new Briggs & Stratton single cylinder engines, please note that the wiring harness and connectors may exhibit some variations compared to your previous model, depending on the brand of your ride-on mower.

Your mower should include a starter motor engaging solenoid, and it is crucial to properly connect the wire that runs from this solenoid to the terminal located at the base of the starter motor. Below, we have provided a guide detailing the wires found on the new Briggs & Stratton single cylinder engines and their corresponding connections:

RED WIRE - DC Battery Charge Wire should be connected directly to the positive power terminal of your battery to recharge it.

BLACK WIRE – Magneto Kill Wire should be routed to an ON/OFF switch and then grounded. DO NOT ADD VOLTAGE TO THIS WIRE!

GREY WIRE – Fuel Solenoid Wire should be directed to an on/off switch and then connected to the positive terminal of your battery as this controls the carburetor solenoid for fuel.

ORANGE WIRE (if installed) – Accessory Wire can be connected to headlights or any other accessories.

Please consult your specific ride-on mower's manual or seek professional assistance if you require further guidance or if there are additional wires to be connected. Properly connecting these wires is essential for the safe and efficient operation of your new Briggs & Stratton engine.
